Optimum Recommended TV Size For Living Room

Size of the apartment is falling behind...the dimension of the TV!

The dimension of TV has been steadily increasing over the years. However, ironically the size of our Singaporean apartment has been consistently shrinking at the same time!

What does this phenomenon mean to us?

"Will a 70" TV fit into a 3 bedroom HDB or a 2 bedder Condominium? Is this TV size monstrous?""What TV resolution should I use for my bedroom? Which resolution is the most suitable?"
To answer these common questions which many homeowners faced, here are some useful inforgraphics which I managed to scour from various sources. From these sources, it is apparent that generally, the maximum size of the TV screen is influenced by the distance between the seated viewer and the TV screen.

Common mistake made by homeowners; taking the distance between the wall and the back of the sofa to determine the size of the TV screen!

Nevertheless, do take note that these infographics are simply, guidelines to help you in deciding on which TV size to purchase, and thus some of the calculations might vary. Hence, you should use them as a reference and test the recommended TV size before making the purchase! Case in point? You will probably come to a different conclusion based on the infographics below.

Case Study:

What is the recommended TV size for a distance of 2.5m (8.2 feet)?

Answer: 65"
For a distance of 2.5m (8.2 feet) between the seated audience and the TV screen, it seems like we can safely look at 65" TV.

Answer: 65" again!

Answer: 46"-55"

For a distance of 2.5m (8.2 feet) between the seated audience and the TV screen, this infographics recommends that we should look at 46" to 55" TV instead.

Answer: 50"
For a distance of 2.5m (8.2 feet) between the seated audience and the TV screen, this infographics recommends that we should look at 50" TV. Perhaps this came out before the larger TVs are released.

Conclusion:

Based on all these infographics, as a guide the ideal TV size should fall somewhere between 50" - 60". However, I would strongly advise you to take the actual dimensions of your living room (remember to include the ceiling height too) and compare this with the showroom's dimension. This is because the showroom is bigger and it's tall ceiling tend to make large TV screen appear smaller than it really this.
